El Micalet

El Micalet, also known as the Miguelete, is the iconic bell tower of Valencia Cathedral and one of the most recognisable monuments in the city. Located in the heart of Valencia’s historic centre, next to the Cathedral, it is an essential stop for visitors exploring the old town.

The tower was built between the 14th and 15th centuries in the Valencian Gothic style. Its construction took several decades, and the tower was finally completed in the early 15th century. It is named after its famous main bell, known as “Miquel”, which was installed in the 16th century.

One of the main attractions of El Micalet is the opportunity to climb to the top of the tower. Visitors must climb more than 200 steps along its narrow spiral staircase, but the effort is rewarded with spectacular panoramic views over Valencia. From the top, it is possible to see the historic centre, the Turia Gardens and, on clear days, areas extending towards the Mediterranean coast.
