The Central Market is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It is a modernist-style construction built in 1914 by Francesc Guàrdia i Vial and Alexandre Soler i March. But the work was completed in 1928 by Enrique Viedma Vidal and Ángel Romaní Verdeguer.
It is located in the Plaza del Mercado, in the centre of the city and next to the Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange). The bazaar has 959 stalls selling: seafood, fruit, spices, meats, sausages, etc. This makes it the largest fresh produce market in Europe. But it is not only a blessing for the taste, it is also a blessing for the eyes.
Its architecture combines metal with glass, so that light plays a major role and the large central dome crowned by a weathervane stands out.
