The Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporánea is an old convent refurbished for cultural use with the aim of hosting a wide range of arts (visual arts, dance, performance, etc.).
It is located on Calle Museo in Valencia. The building is made up of several nuclei such as the medieval chapel, the Gothic cloister, the Renaissance cloister and the new church.
Among the first constructions is the chapel of the Virgin of Life, with a square floor plan and pointed arches.
The new church is Gothic in style and has a single nave with chapels between buttresses. The Renaissance cloister has wide sides, a slightly irregular square floor plan and two sections: the lower section with eight arches on columns and the upper section with sixteen smaller arches.
The nave surrounds a polygonal Gothic chancel and articulates the new chapels with semicircular arches. The façade of the church is built on a wall attached to the foot of the church, has a neoclassical façade and is composed of two pilasters, a Doric entablature and a pediment. The tower is located to the left of the façade.
The museum is currently committed to a committed and activist culture. For example, one of the projects to be highlighted is the “VIHsibles” festival.
Admission is free and it is closed on Mondays.
