The Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM) was created in 1986 to develop the cultural policy of the Generalidad Valenciana, to promote and disseminate modern art.
It is the museum of modern and contemporary art of the Valencian Community by experience and is located in the centre of Valencia.
It was, at the time, the first modern art museum in Spain and had two buildings. The main building in the Centre Julio González, whose structure is based on the Dulwich Gallery in London, and the Sala de la Muralla, located in the basement and dedicated to the exhibition of photographs and drawings.
This museum has a permanent collection of 12,000 works by Spanish and international artists like Richard Hamilton, Tony Cragg, Carmen Calvo, Cindy Sherman, Fernando Arroyo, etc. It also hosts different temporary exhibitions, so a visit to the museum is always unique and unrepeatable.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission costs €5.
